There are a number of NIs within 'safer and stronger communities' where homelessness agencies may be able to make a credible argument for their work having a significant impact, through working with people who might otherwise have a detrimental effect on the community.
To demonstrate their contribution towards targets from these NIs, the task is slightly different but agencies still need to demonstrate:
- How many people they work with in the group potentially impacting on the community
- Outcomes for that group (including distance travelled)
- Keeping that group off the streets.
The following are the key NIs in this category and highlight how homelessness agencies might link their work to the achievement of targets within those NIs:
|
NI |
Target |
Possible contribution of agency: |
|
41 |
Perceptions of drunk or rowdy behaviour as a problem |
Work with street drinkers keeps them off the streets and addresses their alcohol dependency |
|
42 |
Perceptions of drug use or drug dealing is a problem |
Outcomes of drug users addressing their drug use and being suitably housed reduces both drug use and drug dealing within the community |
|
17 |
Perceptions of anti-social behaviour |
Effective work with people otherwise likely to be seen as behaving anti-socially in the community |
|
195 |
Improved street and environmental cleanliness, including graffiti and litter |
Possibly tenuous, but linked to reduced street drinking and drug use (cans, syringes etc) |
|
16 & 20 |
Serious acquisitive crime and assault with injury crime rate |
Effective work with drug users with the risk of these crimes or those with a history of these crimes |
